Cornwall Council Leader Julian German has given more information on how the Council intend to distribute the Local Restriction Support Grants to local small businesses in Cornwall for Lockdown 2.
There will be two grants as before – the ‘mandatory’ grant given to those registered for Business Rates and the Discretionary grant that the Council has more freedom to distribute at its will.
The Council hope for the application system for the mandatory grants to be ready on Friday 13th, (tomorrow) and for the discretionary grant to be ready to apply for next week.

Cllr German explained,
“This is a government grant which is going to be administered by Cornwall Council and is designed to support businesses which pay Business Rates and have been forced to close as a result of this Lockdown. We are currently in the process of setting up a system to ensure that eligible businesses can apply for grants using a simple form. Businesses are under tremendous strain as it is, so it is important that this system is as straightforward as possible and we hope this will go live on Friday. There will also be a discretionary scheme to support businesses unable to access the Local Restriction Support Grant Scheme. We are currently working through the government guidance on this and working with Cornwall’s business leaders to ensure the process we put in place is targeted at those who need it most and distribute the funding fairly. We expect to announce the application process for the Discretionary Grant Scheme next week.”
More information will be posted on the Council’s website.
