Now here’s a crafty idea from IKEA.
For the first time, the Swedish company, with local stores in Grand Prairie and Frisco, has released free downloadable instructions so that people can assemble iconic IKEA furniture at home — out of gingerbread.
The Gingerbread Höme is a new project from IKEA Canada, said Lauren Snyder with IKEA North American Services, and was released this month.
The kit also includes files to make furniture-shaped cookie cutters for those with 3D printers.
The Billy Bookcase, the Strandmon armchair, Malm bed frame and Rens rug are among the furniture choices.
“Simply cut out the templates, trace around them to cut out pieces of gingerbread, bake, assemble, and decorate!” the company says.
“In true IKEA fashion, each furniture cookie is designed to be easy to assemble, giving everyone an opportunity to get in on the festive fun.”
And perhaps a Christmas miracle for those decidedly unhandy: “There’s no Allen key needed,” Snyder said.
