- However, Canon may not unveil any new products this time.
Many important launch events have shifted from physical gatherings to online platforms due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The same has happened/ will happen with two of the biggest photo and video trade shows -CES 2021 and CP+ 2021. The former took place in the second week of January. The CP+ Camera and Photo Imaging Show 2021 Online will begin from February 25.
The expectations of the camera users from the CP+ 2021 are usually high. Camera companies do make important announcements as well. This time, there were conjectures about Canon to release a new camera body and a couple of lenses at the virtual show. However, the latest report by the CanonRumors suggests otherwise. The report reveals that Canon may not unveil any new products at the event. The reason being the manufacturing problems faced by the company in Japan.
What are the manufacturing challenges faced by Canon?
The global demand for products is generally less because of the novel coronavirus pandemic. If there is no consumer demand, that means no exports. FYI, the major chunk of the Japanese economy is stable because of its electronic and car parts exports.
According to Deloitte Insights, exports and manufacturing production are correlated in Japan. For instance, in May 2020, manufactured goods exports fell 23.8 per cent from a year earlier, while manufacturing production was down 25.9 per cent over the same period. This is why a lot of companies including Canon are facing manufacturing problems in the country.
Products that Canon was supposed to launch at CP+ 2021
CanonRumors suggests that the company was supposed to launch three lenses in total. All the three lenses will support RF-mount for Canon’s full-frame mirrorless cameras. The new lenses will be: 18-45mm F4-5.6 IS STM, 24mm F1.8 IS STM Macro, and 100-400mm F5.6-7.1 IS USM. The lenses will now probably arrive in the second half of 2021.
As the report states, “This is going to be a difficult year to pin down announcement dates, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see everything pushed to the second half of 2021 as manufacturing challenges should improve over the coming months.”
Well, the delay in the Canon products has been declared by the reports and not by the company itself. We should wait for Canon to announce something on its own and keep a tab on the announcements at the upcoming CP+ 2021 online event. But also remember, every rumour has a tang of truth.
