On Thursday night, Australia’s third-largest lottery haul is up from grabs, with one in four Aussies expected to purchase a ticket.
Last week, Powerball’s division one prize jackpotted, meaning this week there’s a chance someone could win a massive $80 million in draw number 1301 on Thursday night.
“As this is the biggest Australian lottery jackpot so far in 2021, we’re expecting things to become hectic in our lottery outlets and online,” The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said.
“You do need to be in it for the chance to win it, and the draw closes at 7.30pm AEST on Thursday.
“I’d also recommend you register your entry to a player card or online account. If your numbers are drawn, you’ll want to know you’re a multi-millionaire as soon as possible. By registering your entry, your prize is secure, and we can contact you with the winning news shortly after the draw.”
Tickets can be purchased online, the Lott app or at any licensed lottery outlet.
Australia’s biggest lottery winners
There have been four division one Powerball winners in 2021, two from Queensland and two from NSW, collectively winning $120 million.
The $80 million jackpot amount is the third largest in Australian history.
In 2019, a mum from Sydney won a $107 million Powerball prize, Mr Hart explained.
Also in 2019, a dad from Chatswood won $96 million in Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot.
However, there have been two other lottery players who won $80 million in the past — both happened in 2020.
“In March last year, a farmer from the Port Macquarie region pocketed an $80 million prize,” Mr Hart said.
“Having battled drought and then bushfires in recent years, the Powerball winner saw the windfall as a welcomed change of fortune.
“Then in July 2020, four days after the draw itself, a Dromana couple discovered they’d won $80 million – making them the happy owners of Victoria’s biggest ever lottery prize.”
